La reconstruction mammaire est un processus incluant plusieurs interventions chirurgicales dont le but est de restaurer la poitrine de la manière la plus harmonieuse possible après l’ablation d’un sein ou des deux, lors du traitement d’un cancer du sein.
Il existe deux principales méthodes de reconstruction mammaire, parfois associées :
- la mise en place d’une prothèse mammaire
- l’utilisation de tissus provenant d’autres parties du corps, la reconstruction par lambeau ou/et le lipofilling (injection de sa propre graisse).
Certaines femmes ne ressentent pas le besoin de reconstruire leur sein. Il s’agit d’une décision personnelle qui peut être prise des mois, voire des années après l’ablation.
Breast reconstruction is a process including several surgeries whose goal is to restore the breast in the most harmonious way possible after the removal of one or both breasts, during the treatment of breast cancer.
There are two main methods of breast reconstruction, sometimes combined:
- placement of a breast prosthesis
- the use of tissues from other parts of the body, flap reconstruction and/or lipofilling (injection of one’s own fat).
Some women do not feel the need to reconstruct their breast. This is a personal decision that can be made months or even years after the ablation.
